POWER SYSTEM STUDY

MES offers system studies and relay co-ordination services by using latest E-TAP software. Power system studies are essential tools in understanding the expected performance of an electrical system and determining the severity of a fault or other unexpected event. The data contained within a power system study can be used to safeguard workers by calculating the level of personal protective equipment involved and reduce damage to equipment by optimizing the fault clearing capabilities of protective devices.

We are providing different types of power system studies, each with their own special purpose and calculation method. Each analysis is unique to a particular power system:

RELAY CO-ORDINATION STUDY

Relay Co-ordination Study ensures selective fault isolation and coordinate the protective devices from load to source to minimize disturbance to the healthy portion of power system. With the help of Time Current Characteristic curves (TCC), generated by ETAP, we adjust time intervals between adjacent relays to make sure that the fault is isolated within the thermal withstand capability of Circuit Breakers, Transformers and Cables.

SHORT CIRCUIT STUDY

Short Circuit Study determines the magnitude of the fault currents flowing throughout the power system for 3ph, Ph-Ph, double phase-to- ground and Ph-Ground. Study results help in comparing with short circuit current rating of Circuit Breakers, Switchgear, Cables, Transformers. These results are also used in selecting new electric equipment, Ground Grid Design, Relay Settings, Arc Flash Hazard calculations.

ARC FLASH HAZARD STUDY

The purpose of the arc-flash analysis is to determine the arc-flash incident energy levels and flash-protection boundary distances of electrical equipment based on results found in short-circuit and coordination studies. The analysis is performed under worst case arc-flash conditions for all modes of operation and provides an analysis of all possible operating scenarios which will be, or have been influenced by, the proposed or completed additions to the subject system.

LOAD FLOW STUDY

A load flow study determines the active and reactive power, voltage, current, and power factor throughout an electrical system. Load flow studies provides an analysis of all possible operating scenarios and identifies overloaded equipment. Included within the load flow study is a tabulation of the data used to model the system components and a corresponding one-line diagram.
